Diwali Day at Avalon School
Children were joined by Patricia Hardman from the charity 'Samaritan's Purse' in today's assembly and found out how the charity helps thousands of children around the world, at Christmas time. Two volunteers enjoyed the task of unpacking shoeboxes, one for a girl and one for a boy. The inclusion of items such as tooth brushes, toothpaste and face cloths were not items that the children expected to find! However, Patricia explained how children who may be living in an orphanage would not have these personal items and would delight in having their own for Christmas. Of course the children found more familiar items such as sweets, toys and colouring pencils and enjoyed sharing ideas about the gifts that they would like to put in their shoe boxes.
If you would like further details please see the website link below. We kindly ask that shoeboxes are brought into school by Friday 4th November, in readiness for collection at the local depot.
