The Mayor and Mayoress visit Avalon

Mayoral visit

We were honoured to welcome the Mayor of Mayoress Wirral, Mr Geoffrey Watt and his wife Anne, to our school on Tuesday to meet our school community. Mr Watt spoke warmly to the children about his time in office and fielded a range of questions from the children. The children wanted to know about the things they had done whilst in office which were meeting the tall ships on the Mersey and even having tea with the Queen.

The Mayor and Mayoress are lifelong West Kirby residents and the Mayoress was an Avalon pupil herself. Both their children attended Avalon and it was lovely for them to be able to find familiar faces from our historical photograph display.

At the end of a lovely assembly, the Mayor invited the school council to the debating chambers in Wallasey Town Hall in the autumn term to learn more about democracy and local law.

Our longer serving members of staff, all of whom had taught the Mayor and Mayoress' children enjoyed tea and cake and talked about how much the school had changed and developed over the years. They were presented with some artwork from our younger children and silver bookmark marking the school's 110th Anniversary.

Thank you very much for a wonderful visit.
