Anti bullying week

R.E.S.P.E.C.T

Following national anti bullying week at the end of November, the children put on a wonderful assembly highlighting all they had learned over the past two weeks. The assembly started with our youngest children in the nursery saying "mean" and "kind" things to an apple. Once they had finished, they cut the apples open. The apple which had received kind words, was healthy and fresh whereas the apple which had received criticism was bad and decaying. The Reception children followed with a performance about kind words and they had all prepared kind things to say about their friends. They also sang along to Randy Newman's "You've Got A Friend In Me" from Toy Story. The Year 1 children performed a wonderful poem about friendship and kindness and the Year 2 children spoke so clearly and carefully about being aware of the needs of others. The Year 3 children performed a short play in French about inclusivity in playground games and it really demonstrated and the Year 4 children spoke about their friendship and and the Year 4 team. Year 5 read excerpts from poems they had written from the perspective of a bully, their victim or an observer and were very powerful messages. Year 6 put on a series of role plays which again highlighted how people can be affected by bullying and what we can do to resolve issues. The assembly finished with a pre-recorded performance of Aretha Franklin's iconic R.E.S.P.E.C.T by the school staff. It has been under wraps for a couple of weeks but the reaction from the children and parents was priceless! The video can be see below.

Following the assembly, the parents were invited back to the classrooms to take part in collaborative activities with their children, all based around the theme of anti-bullying. They were decorating gingerbread people, doing collaborative maths puzzles and looking at poetry amongst other activities.

Thank you to all the staff for their hard work and dedication and to all the parents for coming in to school to support their children. Thank you also to the children for being collaborative, supportive and so respectful of each other. It was a very successful day and was the culmination of 2 weeks of work on the important aspects of anti bulling and the message to the children and our school community was clear.
