This Term in STEAM Club

STEAM club this term have completed lots of fantastic activities which everyone has thoroughly enjoyed! Such as designing a logo for a rocket to go into space, building a Lego maze and writing code instructions, making a vessel that can float on water and drawing a design around the number 70 for the queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

We finished off the term with an exciting chemistry experimenting, investigating what will happen when we mix vinegar and bi-carbonate of soda. The children all completed this very sensibly by putting vinegar into a plastic bottle and bi-carbonate into a balloon. They then stretched the balloon over the top of the bottle and poured in the bi-carbonate. The liquid began to fizz and foam and let off carbon dioxide which caused the balloons to inflate. How exciting! After this, we discussed what made some group’s balloons inflate larger than others and concluded that it was dependent on the amount of vinegar and bi-carbonate of soda that you add together. Well done STEAM club!

In STEAM club, the children were challenged to design a vessel that would not only float on water, but be able to carry objects too.

Last week, they created their design and finalised which materials they would need.

Today, the pupils have started constructing their vessels.

We can’t wait to find out if our designs were successful and if we picked the best materials to float!

In STEAM club this week, the children used a range of materials to create space themed art work.

They chose to use oil pastels, paint and card to create texture on their planets, moons and stars.
