Remembering our Manners

Year 2 have been using the traditional tale of Goldilocks to expand a discussion of why being polite and using good manners are important. They worked together  on a role play to practise and apply these principles. We are hoping to use good manners in and out of the classroom as well as when we are not in school.

Searching For the Signs of Spring

The year 2 children had a wonderful time on their Spring walk Wednesday morning, where they searched for the first signs of nature coming to life. There was lots to see; from admiring the plants nearly ready to bloom, to the Blossom starting to colour the nearby roads and hearing birds chirp away as they start building their nests.

Stronger Together

Year 2 had a very exciting STEM lesson this morning looking at engineering and materials. They spoke about how some materials are not very strong by themselves but when put together they become stronger and can hold lots of weight.

The children had a competition to see which group could build the tallest tower using spaghetti and jelly babies, inspired by a picture of the Eiffel Tower. They showed excellent teamwork and communication skills, and they all worked very hard to create some fantastic structures.

Well done Year 2!

The Year 1 & Year 2 children thoroughly enjoyed their counting conkers competition on Monday the 14th of November! After collecting the conkers over the past few weeks, it was now time for both classes to go head-to-head to see which class had collected the most by counting in units of ten. Congratulations to Year 2 for collecting the most and to Year 1 for all their efforts – there was lots of enthusiasm from both sides.

On Monday the children in Year 1 and 2 had fun on their trip to Chester Zoo. During their educational session they enjoyed learning about the characteristics of living things. They were well-behaved when examining objects connected to animals that are colourful, big, fast, nocturnal, and live underwater. They also had a brilliant time seeing all the animals including the butterfly house where they were able to see the chrysalis and caterpillars.

We followed this up today with a Literacy Read and Respond activity. I have enclosed the instructions . If you would like to make a box at home during the half term break, we would love to see some photos! Have a relaxing break. I look forward to hearing about the children’s adventures on their return.

Inspired by Nature

As part of our Art focus on designer William Morris, Year 2 visited Caldy Woods this week. We explored the beautiful surroundings and made sketches taking nature as our inspiration. Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Only One You

We have been studying the book Only One You by Judith Krantz. This is a beautiful story about a creature receiving good advice on how to make friends and get along. The children produced a great piece of character description work in Literacy lessons. They next painted their own designs for Only One You. The work is now displayed in our classroom.  Well done Year 2!
